-Is their chosen theme inclusive of all learners? Do they include diverse perspectives? If so, how? If not, how might it be modified?

-Based on the thematic unit chosen by your peer, provide a link to an activity or Pinterest board that your peers could use in their chosen units, and explain why you have selected that particular one.

Part 1:

Define thematic units. Discuss why we use thematic units.

Thematic units are when a teacher uses a theme to teach across multiple classroom disciplines. (Thematic Units - A Highly Effective Way to

Engage Learners | Education World, n.d.). Educators will choose themes that obtain the children's interest in the classroom through observation. We use thematic units to give children in-depth learning about a broad subject. Using thematic units engages children's interest by engaging in activities, lessons, and discussions that are age-appropriate for the classroom about a specific topic.

Part 2:

Provide the link to your chosen thematic unit.

Why did that particular theme catch your interest?

The "Community Helpers" theme caught my interest because children see community helpers all the time. Children learn about police officers, firefighters, and hospital works through books, television, and real-life experiences. I want children to understand that it is okay to trust these people with their lives, and they are there to help you. Also, give children the opportunity to engage in something that could be their career choice in the future.

What did you notice about how the unit was organized?

I like that you can incorporate this theme into your entire classroom. You can incorporate clothes into dramatic play, books in the library and around the school, music, and art. This thematic unit will be continuously ongoing because children will always be interested in community helpers. Children's first career dreams are to be firefighters, police officers, doctors, or teachers usually. By introducing and incorporating these activities around the classroom, children can ask questions and understand each community helper. Also, we will need more educators in the future, and I take pride in introducing that career choice to children at an early age.

How will this thematic unit inspire the thematic unit that you will design during the course?

The thematic unit inspired me because activities were provided for different interest areas in the classroom, such as art, dramatic play, literacy, blocks, and music. When creating my thematic unit, I want to cover different interest areas in the classroom for children to retain lessons and expand their learning by asking questions, doing age-appropriate activities, and learning through play.
