Formulate the topic as a hypothesis or problem-clearly define the objectives of the research and:

• identify and list reliable, authoritative, relevant sources of data-qualitative and quantitative
• collect the data and collate it in a form that can be properly stored
• select the appropriate analysis methods or tools and apply them to the data
• use the analysis process to identify themes, trends, developments etc that are relevant to the topic you have selected
• describe the procedures you have followed and any relationships, correlations or conclusions that you have drawn from the data
• explain why you think that these conclusions are justified and consistent with the research objectives
