Assignment:
Then, read ONE of the following articles on e-Reserve (see the Library Resources menu on our Canvas page):
Maguire, E. R., Nix, J., & Campbell, B. A. (2017). A war on cops? The effects of Ferguson on the number of U.S. police officers murdered in the line of duty. Justice Quarterly, 34(5), 739-758.
Considering the article you read and the material for this week, how would you approach managing police officers?
Some claim - and many police officers believe - that there is a "war on cops", leading to decreased morale and avoiding law enforcement. Considering these readings, do you think there is a "Ferguson Effect"? In your post, please:
(1) define the Ferguson Effect;
(2) whether you think it exists or whether it is rhetoric;
(3) how stress (of police and or of citizens) plays a role; and
(4) what police leaders should do about either confronting the myth (if you believe the Ferguson Effect is one) or addressing the issue (if you believe the Ferguson Effect is real).
Be sure to cite the e-Reserve article you read and respond to at least three classmates' posts (preferably those with different opinions) throughout the week.
