Consider benzene (C6H6) in the gas phase. Write the reaction for breaking all the bonds in C6H6 using an enthalpy formation chart. And then write a reaction that corresponds to breaking all the carbon-carbon bonds in C6H6. By combining your answers and using the average bond enthalpy for C-H (413 kJ/mol) calculate the average bond enthalpy for the carbon-carbon bonds in C6H6, comment on your answer in comparison to the estimated values for a single C-C bond (348 kJ/mol) and a double C=C bond (1842 kJ/mol)
