Topic: Environmental Injustice!!!
Spatial justice seeks to equitably distribute community benefits and ills across the urban landscape. In a spatially just city, neighborhoods are sustainable and have equitable access to public services, basic & cultural goods, economic opportunity, and healthy environments. The City of Winston-Salem, like all US cities, faces numerous issues related to spatial injustice. These issues are both historical (redlining, urban renewal,
residential racial zoning, etc) and current (gentrification, environmental injustice, educational inequalities, food deserts, etc.).
Questions:
1. Provide some basic history, facts, data on the City of Winston-Salem, North Carolina..set the stage!
2. Define Spatial (In)justice, what is it, why is it important, etc.
3. Discuss the spatial injustice you picked, including a definition of the issue, how it impacts WS, and whether it is a current issue or historical (or both).
4. Present solutions to the SJ issue.
