Be able to define reagin, atopy, allergy, hypersensitivity, anaphylaxis. Be able to compare and contrast the mechanism and manifestations of the 4 types of hypersensitivities. Know the mechanisms in IgE hypersensitivities: Th2 cells, cell-bound IgE, mast cells, histamine. Know that immediate hypersensitivity is mediated by IgE, and results in a wheal and flare in skin tests. What is a RAST test? What is desensitization therapy. What is type II hypersensitivity? What causes the cell or tissue destruction? What is the mechanism of a transfusion reaction?
