The capability of reaction to proceed quickly by Sn1 or Sn2 mechanisms often depends on the solvent used, also group solvents into 3 general categories: apolar, polar aprotic and polar protic. With neutral electrophiles, most Sn1 reactions are faster in polar solvents and most Sn2 reactions are faster in apolar solvents. This question observes reactions with charged electrophiles. Define how can each of these solvents help or hinder the rates of nucleophile, such as Br-, with electrophile carrying positive charge leaving group, such as (CH3CH2)2CHOH2+?
