Assignment - The leaders of Maven Manor have decided it is time to move to electronic record keeping. To pave the way for a smooth transition, known that it's essential for everyone on staff to understand what healthcare informatics is all about. My supervisor, Patricia Perez, knows this too and has asked me to prepare a staff presentation that introduces healthcare informatics, its uses, and the important benefits and limitations associated with it. Patricia also wants the staff to understand how clinical data, along with research and theory, can be used to improve patient outcomes.

Prepare a slide presentation with 18-22 slides. Include presenter notes, since you may not be the person giving the presentation each time. Anticipate potential questions from the audience and address these in the notes. Be sure to present all information using your own words in a professional manner, appropriate for all members of the staff.

Include the following topics in the presentation:

Overview -

1 - Define healthcare informatics.

2 - Explain why it is important for addressing today's healthcare issues.

3 - Explain key drivers for healthcare informatics.

4 - Identify and describe key barriers to using healthcare informatics.

5 - Applications - Explain how each of these applications of healthcare informatics works, what people or organizations it helps and how, and any potential drawbacks or limitations to the application. For each, also note the role of research, clinical data and/or theory in i-Improving patient outcomes:

- Patient Portals

- Syndromic Surveillance

A summary of one of the programs described in "The Hot Spotters" resource - Explain:

- The primary goals of the program related to improving patient outcomes and/or the healthcare system.

- The idea or theory the program was designed to test.

- The approach used in the program.

- What was learned through the program.
