Tariq and Andy and Bilal agree to meet in their local bar for a drink. Knowing Bilal is scared of spiders, Andy placed a plastic spider in his drink as a joke. When Bilal saw the spider, although he didn't feel threatened, he fainted. Tariq was so angry with Andy for scaring Bilal that he punched him in the face, causing a black eye.
Tariq works as an accountant and has a high income. Tariq has a previous conviction for ABH and a history of violent behaviour, however he is sorry and has apologised to Andy.
Case Two
Megan and Sinead play netball for local teams, and were both playing in a derby match in the local leisure centre. Shortly after the second half, Megan's team lost a penalty. In frustration, she pushed Sinead who was standing in her way. Sinead spun around in shock, punching Megan in the face and causing her to fall backwards. Megan lost her balance and broke her ankle and she had to have surgery in the local hospital. She could no longer play netball. Sinead is a student and has no income currently apart from her student loan that is paying for her accommodation and tuition fees. Sinead has no previous convictions and is of good character with a statement from her team coach saying this is not her normal behaviour. She apologised to Megan immediately and stayed with her whilst an ambulance was called.
