St. Maria's Hospital had an average waiting time of 7 minutes for critical care patients and 40 minutes for acute but not life-threatening injuries and illnesses. The staff of St Maria's were recently rated as a Level II Trauma Center for their ability to initiate care of all injured patients.

St. Maria's would like to become a Level I hospital and expand its services to all, ranging from prevention to rehabilitation. The key elements in its care include 24-hour coverage by general surgeons; other surgeons or specialists would be available promptly. Leadership, patient education, public education, and continuing education for patient care staff are required to be provided by the Level I hospital.

Using the Six Lean Goals (MacInnes, 2009, p. 2) as a structure, describe at least two questions the staff should ask and answer for each goal and why they should ask those questions. Post your responses, and respond to your peers after answering the questions.

As described in the reading from The Lean Enterprise Memory Jogger for Service (MacInnes, 2009, p. 1), lean goals for an organization are the following:

Define demand for services

Extend demand lead time

Match supply to demand

Eliminate waste

Reduce supply lead time

Reduce total costs
