Question: Sarah works at a small accounting firm. The firm's handbook contains the following policy: Employees are prohibited from discussing their salary, bonuses, or any other forms of compensation, including benefits and vacation t1me. Sarah is very careful not to violate the policy but, after she becomes married to her co-worker Bill, Sarah realizes that her salary is 20 percent less than Bill's salary. Bill and Sarah were hired at the same time and at the same position level. Sarah is even more upset when she learns that Bill started at the higher salary on his first day on the job. When Sarah asks her boss about the difference, she is terminated. What potential claims could Sarah assert against her employer? What defenses should the employer raise?
