Question- At extremely low temperatures, molecules condense into a single quantum state and become a "supermolecular wavefunction" with special properties, including the extension of the molecule throughout space. This is called "Bose-Einstein Condensation"

a) Explain, using the translational partition function and associated properties, how the molecules condenses into a single quantum state.

b) Explain why, in this quantum state, the molecule wavefunction essentially spreads throughout space. Explain based on statistical thermodynamics; what function relates to the "spread" of the molecular wavefunction?

c) If you trap a thiophosgene (CSCl2) molecule in a 1 mL chamber, at what temperature would the molecule condense into a single quantum state and spread its wavefunction throughout the 1 mL chamber?
