Assessment Description: Phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics are important components of the study of language known as linguistics. Teachers must understand the linguistic demands placed on young students as they learn to read and write. Early childhood educators must be able to identify typical and atypical linguistic development and be equipped to support all learners in the inclusive early childhood classroom.
Using an online platform of your choice, record a 3-5 minute webinar-style video presenting information on language and literacy development to other educators. Your webinar must include a recording of yourself delivering the information.
During the webinar, discuss the following:
Define and provide examples of phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics and explain how each of these linguistic components applies to literacy development.
Explain why it is important to understand these components of linguistics in supporting students with exceptionalities.
Describe 2-3 developmentally appropriate research-based instructional strategies to support the language and literacy development of early childhood students who struggle with linguistic components.
Include a brief outline of your presentation.
Support your webinar with a minimum of three scholarly resources.
Refer to the "Recording, Editing and Uploading a Video or Podcast Guide," if needed, to help you become familiar with how to create a video.
Remember, video and audio quality are important and should be taken into consideration. Ensure your video is filmed with sufficient lighting and the volume is adequate for viewers to hear. Intonation, expression, proper speech, and professional attire are expected.
Use an online video platform such as Loom, YouTube, or Vimeo to upload your completed video. Ensure that others can access and view your linked video prior to submitting to the learning management system. If you upload your video to YouTube, select the "unlisted" option.
Submit your outline, resources, and a link to the webinar in one document.
While APA style format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines.
