ASSESSMENT TASK

CASE STUDY: How Information Systems (IS) can improve Business quality:

The importance of information systems (IS) has dramatically increased during the past decade.

Today a modern organisation could not be imagined without an efficient information system.

Hence, to run a successful business, you need to invest in high-quality information systems that will simplify processing data and statistics, either organisational or financial. Most of the companies have experienced data problems caused by lack of accuracy and reliability, and as a result, the workflow slows down. The primary goal for all companies is to reduce human errors and increase efficiency. To be able to achieve such goals, companies have to get an excellent information system.

Against this backdrop you are required to write a report to assess the impact of Information Systems in the development of business. The report should contain the following:

Part 1. Introduction: (400 words)
a) Define and explain the Information Systems along-with the various types of Information Systems used today in business organisations.

Part 2. Background: (400 words)
a) Discuss the historical development of Information Systems along-with its advantages for oganisations.
b) Compare the business environment before and after the implementation of Information Systems applications.

Part 3. Discussion Section: (400 words)
a) Identify and explain the key functions of Information Systems applications used in business.
b) Does the system require some specific hardware to implement the Information Systems? Discuss the key functions of the additional IT hardware requirements, justify your answer.

Part 4. Recommendations: (200 words)
a) Provide a secure computing environment that ensures data privacy and integrity which mitigates cyber-security threats.

Part 5. Include report summary: (400 words)
a) Discuss the role of Information Systems in the economy of Oman.
b) Discuss the possible effect of the use of Information Systems on Omani society.

Part 6. Conclusion: (200 words)
a) Conclusion, indicating that the report objectives have been met.
