Assignment:

Define advertising and explain how it is different from marketing. Then describe and explain how advertising is different from public relations. As part of your explanations please select a brand you are familiar with and provide examples of:

  1. An Ad - this can be a print ad, video meant for TV or streaming, search ad, or display ad on content websites.
  2. A sales promotion - this can be from direct email/mail, on the brand's website or a third party wholesaler for the brand. It can also show up in an advertisement (just make sure you do not use the same example here that you did for the ad above.)
  3. Earned media - this can be a news item that mentions the brand, a non-solicited review/influencer post or other publicity that is not advertising.
  4. Owned media - this can be from the brands blog, website, or organic social media.

Please remember to include APA style references within your discussion postings; this is a required part of each discussion assignment. You should be using the eBook, article readings and scholarly resources to support the concepts/theories/textbook points, in addition to your own thoughts or options.

Always use constructive language, even in criticism, to work toward the goal of positive progress. Using questions and seeking clarifications are good ways to make your posts substantive!
