Question - If NaOH is added to a buffer system composed of HNO2 and KNO2 the ph will not decrease significantly because the NaOH reacts with?

A) HNO2

B) H+

C) NO2-

D) OH-

E) K+

The correct answer is A. I put B as an answer for the reason that hydroxide from sodium hydroxide reacts with protons from nitrous acid. Can a sodium cation react with nitrogen dioxide, too? Why would the answer be A? in its place of B or C?
