Did you have a similar experience? The concept I will be exploring more deeply is the concept of Adolescent Egocentrism. The essence of this concept is that teenagers often imagine that they are in the spotlight, and every action is more significant than it is in actuality. Adolescents often imagine that they are on a stage performing and everyone else is paying attention to their every movement. During this period of development, I was much more self-conscious about EVERYTHING that I did. I wanted to be "cool and popular" so when I would pass by classmates in the hallway, I would intentionally avoid smiling or waving at them unless they smiled or waved at me first (each day, and each time I passed by them). Looking back, I was a fool. I made such a big deal about something so simple. Additionally, I probably looked more "shy and nerdy" than "cool and popular" by taking this approach but I was too stuck in my own thoughts and imagined perception of my peers to ever notice.
