Question 1. Describe the difference between deductive clinical profiling versus inductive actuarial profiling. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each approach?
Question 2. As an FBI profiler, you have been called to an apartment of a 25-year-old white married woman and her 28-year-old husband. The apartment has been ransacked and some jewelry was taken. The woman's body was found by her husband when he returned home from work late in the evening. She is in the living room lying face-up on the couch with the clothing from her lower body pulled down exposing her genitals. There are blood patterns on the floor that indicate that she may have been moved from the ground to the couch. A hammer belonging to the victim was found in the kitchen sink with traces of blood on it. It appears as though the killer tried to remove the blood on the hammer by washing it. Upon examination of the body, the cause of death is blunt trauma to the head consistent with a hammer. There was no indication of sexual assault and no semen was found on or around the body. A toxicological report indicates that the victim had been drinking. Develop a profile of the killer based on the evidence and the information that we learned about profiling from this week. Tell us what kind of killer you think they are and whether any kind of personification/ staging is present. Is there any additional evidence that you would look for or try to collect? How would you proceed with the investigation? Utilize the terms from this week's instructor guidance and the readings to help you construct your profile.
