Question

What in-office therapies could you use to decrease this patient's muscle tension? June is a 23 y.o. college students who comes to you complaining of high stress that is "breaking her body down." She states that her life has become very stressful due to a heavy class load, having to move to a new apartment, and having to take care of her mother who is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. She has been experiencing increased back and neck tension and pain as well as recurrent headaches that feel like her head is being squeezed by a band. She states that she feels tired all of the time during the day, but at night she has difficulty sleeping due to racing thoughts. She also notes that she keeps getting colds. She has been sick 5 times in the last 6 months. She states that she knows that the stress won't magically disappear, but she would like help with strategies to lessen the tension and pain in her body as well as boost her immune system so that she is not getting sick so frequently. Diet Breakfast - just drinks 2-3 cups of coffee, skips breakfast Lunch.
