As a current nurse faculty member, a nursing practice that sparks my interest is to decrease burnout among nurse faculty members. This clinical concern is vital to the nursing practice, as there is an increased level of burnout among nurses, which contributes to the shortage of nurse faculty members, and ultimately worsens the overall shortage in the nation's workforce (Arrojas, 2023). With the shortage of nurse faculty members, colleges nationwide turned away over 92,000 qualified applicants for nursing programs in 2021 (College of Nurses of Ontario, 2024). For my potential DNP project, the PICO(t) question is "Among nurse faculty members at West Coast University (P), will the incorporation of brief mindfulness workshops (I) compared to those without any interventions (C) affect the rate of nurse faculty burnout (O) within 12 weeks? As a result, my proposed DNP project aims to decrease burnout among nurse faculty members by incorporating mindfulness workshops, which aligns with a broader context of alleviating the shortage of nursing faculty members and nurses entering the workforce.
