President Joe Biden has given much attention to the decline of democracy in the world. In a 2021 visit to Connecticut, President Joe Biden said, "The world is watching. Autocrats believe that the world is moving so rapidly that democracies cannot generate consensus quickly enough to get things done. As we look around the world today, we see human rights and democratic principles increasingly under assault. We feel the same charge of history upon our own shoulders to act. We have fewer democracies in the world today than we did fifteen years ago. Fewer, not more, fewer." Biden also said that massacres of Rohingya people in Myanmar, the mass-detention of Uighers in China, and sectarian violence in northern Ethiopia are all evidence that "the specter of atrocity is not far behind us. Silence is complicity." In the book How Democracies Die by Daniel Ziblatt and Steven Levitsky, the authors argued that the U.S. is vulnerable to suffering an "erosion of democracy" due to the breakdown of political norms, the demonization of political opponents, and political leaders not showing restraint.

In your view, is the U.S. strong enough to survive these dangerous trends due to the country's long history under the U.S. Constitution, respect for the rule of law, national creed valuing freedom and equality, large and increasingly diverse middle class, varied economy, and high levels of wealth and education?
