This week you learned about programmed decisions - those decisions managers make often - and non-programmed decisions - those decisions that need to be made because something new happened. In your readings you learned about a six-step process for making non-programmed decisions. In the first part of your discussion post, tell us if you think that managers always follow this process when making decisions. If you have observed some steps being missed, which of these steps do you think are missed the most often?

Active listening is a communication technique which requires the listener to feed back what they hear to the speaker, by way of re-stating or paraphrasing what they have heard in their own words, to confirm what they have heard and to confirm the understanding of both parties. There are times at work - and in your personal life - where active listening techniques are especially useful. Think about your current job or perhaps a job you have held in the past. Describe a time when it would be especially important to use Active Listening techniques. Tell us what the situation might be and what you would do to make sure you were understanding correctly what was being said to you.
