For each of the following situations, decide whether the search violated the Fourth Amendment. Can the evidence seized be used in court?

1. The police see Marian standing at a bus stop on a downtown street in an area where there is extensive drug dealing. They stop and search her and find drugs in her pocket.

2. After Mrs. Pete checks out of a hotel room, the police ask the hotel manager to turn over the contents of a wastebasket that was in her room. The police find notes planning a murder.

3. Mr. Steve receives a tip that a student has a weapon in their car. (the car is parked in the school's parking lot). He and Officer Oslick search the vehicle and a hunting knife is found in the trunk.

4. Sarah is on a bus traveling from Miami to New York City. Three police officers board the bus after receiving a tip about a possible drug dealer onboard. The officers ask the passengers for permission to search their carry-on bags. All passengers comply and the officers find drugs in Sarah's carry-on bag.

5. Mr. Smith invites a K-9 police officer (along with the K-9 partner) to be a guest speaker in his class. As the officer is walking thru the hallway, the dog?"hits" on a locker. Officer Oscan and Mrs. Sam search the locker and a bag of marijuana is found.

6. Payton is suspected of receiving stolen goods. The police go to her apartment and ask Becca her roommate, for permission to search the apartment. Becca gives permission and the police find stolen items in Payton's dresser.

7. Anthony is stopped by the police for a moving violation. The police spot a tobacco pipe on the floor of Anthony's car and believing the pipe is used for illegal drug purposes, the police search Anthony's vehicle and find a bag of marijuana.
