Illinois v. Rodriguez

Upon release from the hospital, Dan Slater focused on his music. David Guetta, a fellow DJ, and longtime friend allowed Slater to stay at his U.S. home, which had a state-of-the-art recording studio. One evening, Bad Bunny, a renowned reggaeton artist was working on a track with Slater. At around 8 PM, there was loud knocking on the front door. Because Guetta was sound asleep on the living room couch Bad Bunny answered the door. He was greeted by several D.E.A. agents and was asked if they could come in to speak with Dan Slater as part of their ongoing investigation. Bad Bunny stepped aside and welcomed them in. As the agents proceeded to walk through Guetta's home, they found drug paraphernalia on the floor directly beneath the couch he was sleeping on. Guetta was arrested and the paraphernalia was seized. Defense: drug paraphernalia is inadmissible. Prosecution: drug paraphernalia is admissible.
