Explain clearly, and in your own words, the differences between (a) data validation, (b) data editing, and (c) data coding?

Data validation is a process that ensures the delivery of clean and clear data to the programs, applications and services using it. It checks the integrity and validity of data that is being inputted to different software and its components. It ensures that the data complies with the requirements and quality benchmarks. Data editing is defined as the process involving the review and adjustment of collected survey data. The purpose is to control the quality of the collected data. Data editing can be performed manually, with the assistance of a computer or a combination of both. Data coding is the process of driving codes from the observed data. In qualitative research the data is either obtained from observations, interviews or from questionnaires. The purpose of data coding is to bring out the essence and meaning of the data that respondents have provided. When it comes to data validation, data editing and data coding the difference is that data validation is data that is clean, correct and meaningful. Data editing is data that can be edited later due to errors. And data coding is translating the answers into values of numbers or numbers to various data information.
