Data Mining for Business Analytics and Cyber Security
Assignment requirements:
A literature review is a study of what has been published on a topic by accredited scholars and researchers. It conveys the existing knowledge and ideas have been established on a topic, and what their strengths and weaknesses are. One of main roles of a literature review is to amplify your knowledge about the topic. You can gain and demonstrate skills in information seeking and critical appraisal. Assignment 3 involves doing an in-depth study, survey, or evaluation of applying data mining to cyber security domain.
The first step, you need to select a topic and define your goal. Some examples of topics for survey papers are:
• Data Mining for Information security: a study of issues, techniques, and usage of data mining to protect the business or organization information.
• Data mining techniques in Intrusion detection system: A survey.
• A survey of Data mining and machine learning method for Cyber Security Intrusion detection
• Data mining applications of cybersecurity for E-Commerce: A survey
The second step: Using the Uni library search facility to locate suitable resources (i.e., peer reviewed publications, such as journal papers, conference paper etc.). Review a number of the articles that most closely pertain to your topic.
The third step: Critically analyse the literatures, compare the literatures to each other, and discuss the relevance of the published studies to current topic and to each other.
The fourth step: include and organize your reference in Harvard style.
Organise your research paper in the following way:
Title (you are required to provide your paper's title) Your name and student number
Abstract (about 150 words)
1. Introduction - Starting the report with the introduction to provide background information, to state the objectives, research problem, and scope of the research coverage.
2. Body context - you could divide into several sub-topics if required. The paper should contain a summary and evaluation of state-of-the-art techniques related to the particular topic studied (i.e., step 3 - analysing, summary, comparison of the published literatures)
3. Conclusion
4. References.
Note: The paper should contain material and sources substantially different than, and go beyond, the material covered directly in class or in readings. Harvard style is required for in text citations and the reference list. The suggested length for the paper is (at least) 6 pages (i,e., about 3,000 words).
