Statistical Test Used

To test the hypothesis that females are more likely than males to engage in self-harm behavior as a result of experiencing bullying, the data gathered is of a qualitative nature, rather than quantitative, thus the test used is a ttest.

Null hypothesis: HO: 1 - 2 > 0

Alternative hypothesis is HO: 1 - 2 < 0

Level of significance                          0.05

Test statistics under HO

t = Mean 1 - Mean 2/SE

           Mean 1 (Females) = .1

           Mean 2 (Males) = .08

           Standard error = .01

t = .1-.08/.01

t = 2

Critical value = 1.65

Decision:

Reject HO at the .05 level of significance because t value of 2 is greater than the critical value of 1.65.
