Question: Designing and interpreting a needs assessment is an important element in a data-driven school counseling program.  Students will develop a data-driven needs assessment based on the ASCA competencies, interpret the "results", and make suggestions for school counseling programming.

This project will consist of the following parts:

  1. Data-driven needs assessment (utilizing data obtained from the instructor).  Students will develop the assessment based on ASCA competencies to address need areas identified in the data.  Students may choose to focus on one specific area, but will need to justify this decision.
  2. Reporting the "results."  Students will manufacture and disaggregate the results (as if the assessment had actually been given).
  3. Interpreting the results and making decisions for programming.  Students will interpret the data and offer suggestions for school counseling programming or advocacy work to address the deficits.  The suggestions will be communicated in the form of SMART goals for the school counseling program.
  4. Reflection on the choices made throughout the project and how the results of the programming will be assessed.
