Data Collection and Analysis Assignment -

Data Collection for Work Project - Data collection for the work project must be carried out individually. A minimum of 10 instances of 5 samples (50 samples) will be enough to construct a control chart. You must have permission from your work Manager or Supervisor to carry out the project. This permission must be given on the standard letter (see the Ethics documents under "Assessment Support Documents" for the appropriate letters) and must be provided well before you commence work on the project.

Data Collection for Alternative Project -

• Students may collect data with one another student and they must include the name and student number of the student with whom the data was shared on the title page of the submission;
• Preferred option for data collection is over a week (e.g., every day at the same time of day for 2 hours sampling every 30 minutes);
• If an alternative data collection schedule is selected then times of day and days of week must be matched for both venues.
• A minimum of 10 instances of 5 samples (50 samples) must be collected for each checkout type.

Other aspects of analysis

• Process maps (current process and suggested improved process), control charts, detailed discussion, references and all other aspects of the analysis must be developed individually)
• Select one of the supermarket stores (Woolworths, Coles or IGA) and compare the processes carried out at the staffed checkouts versus the processes carried out at the self-service checkouts
• Collect data, e.g., throughput time, number of items, other data? (Note: Several students may collect data together. In such cases each student must be acknowledged on the cover page of the Assessment submission. However the literature research, preparation of process maps and control charts and discussion must be carried out individually)
• Map the processes and prepare control charts
• Make suggestions for alternate or improved processes and justify your suggestions
