ASSIGNMENT - Data and Process Modelling Case Study
You are the IT director at a university.
As part of a training program, you decide to draw a DFD that includes some obvious mistakes to see whether your newly hired junior analysts can find them.
You came up with the diagram 0 DFD shown below.
What are the mistakes in this diagram 0 DFD?
Part 1 DFD Problem
Based on the rules explained in this chapter, state the problems the analysts should find.
Download this document and type in your answers in the following table:
1. There is no input for the ASSIGN ADVISOR process. Input is required before any process can take place. Missing input is referred to as a Spontaneous Generation Process
2. The process CHECK OPEN CLASSES is a Black Hole Process, meaning that it is missing output flow.
3. There should be a process between the Data Stores CLASS ROSTER and SEATING CHART as data stores cannot be connected to each other.
4. SEATING CHART is missing outward data flow. Data Flow should only terminate on an External Entity.
5. External Entities INSTRUCTOR and STUDENT should have a Process between them, and INSTRUCTOR should not be connected to a Data Store.
6. This diagram terminates at a Process and at two Data Stores when External Entities should be the only terminators.
7. The process CALCULATE GRADE is not taking in the correct data to calculate the FINAL GRADE.
Part 2 Corrected DFD
Draw a corrected DFD in designated section below.
