Can someone help me answer this two exercise:

The Details for Exercise 1

You can submit your answers for both exercises in either one text box or one document.  For Exercise 1, read the run-on sentence below.  Decide where one sentence ends and the next one begins.  Then use each of the correction methods listed above to turn the run-on into a sentence.  If you need to add or delete words or change the sentence structure, do so (but don't change the meaning).  The run-on you need to correct is:

  • Halloween combines an ancient Celtic festival and a celebration of saints some of its origins date back almost 2,000 years.

The Details for Exercise 2

For Exercise 2, first, identify if the sentence is a comma splice (CS) or a fused sentence (FS).  Then use one method to correct the run-on sentence, but do NOT use the same method of correction for all five sentences.  You must use a different method so that all five correction techniques are highlighted in this exercise. Again, you can add or delete words or change the sentence structure but don't change the meaning of the sentence.  

The five sentences to identify and correct are:

  1. Farmers have been trying to keep hungry birds out of their crops for centuries the first scarecrow was invented for this reason.
  2. Some farmers have used a variety of chemicals, other farmers have tried noise such as small cannons.
  3. Recently, a group of berry farmers tried something new they brought in bigger birds called falcons.
  4. Using falcons to protect their crops saves farmers money, it does not damage the environment either.
  5. A falconer's (a person who raises and trains falcons) services are not cheap they cost less than the method of putting nets over a berry field.
