Sara is 14 years of age and in middle school. Both of her parents work full time and are very socially active in their community. Sara has few friends at school and keeps to herself. However, she really likes to meet new friends in her church's online chat room and other social media. Recently, she met a boy her age on social media, and they have become good friends. They contact one another daily and have an agreement to keep their friendship secret. The boy suggests that they meet on a Saturday at a shopping mall, where his dad will take them out to lunch, followed by some hiking.

Sara's mother happens to be in her room one day and notices a message that popped up for Sara on her computer. The sender is suggesting that she bring an extra set of clothes in case she gets her hiking clothes dirty. Scrolling through her social media, she discovers that Sara has been drawn into a sexually explicit online relationship and is about to secretly meet her new "friend" in person.
