The application layer is the seventh layer of the Open System Interconnection (OSI) model used primarily to accommodate user interface and is the closest layer to the user-end. This layer provides threat actors with the widest attack surface (Solomon, 2016). In order to lessen the attack vectors found within the application layer Cloud computing providers like I-Keep and Airange could implement the following best practices: remove all applications not being used, update patches routinely, and use firewalls, content filters and operating system (OS) user authentication to restrict access to applications. As applications are properly hardened attacks whether internal or external become less of a threat.
