Cybercrime has come to the world of healthcare. A relatively new problem, cybercriminals have realized that the EHR contains a host of vulnerable, valuable, and amazingly, fairly easily breached records. Review the article above. The American Medical Collection Agency parent company filed bankruptcy after the billing services vendor was hacked. The hack remained unnoticed for eight months and 'spilled' into multiple other vendors. A newer type of cybercrime occurs when a facility's entire electronic system is hacked, control is gained by the hackers, and the system is held hostage until a "ransom" is paid. Imagine trying to run a hospital these days blind, with no EHR, electronic communication between departments, etc. Outline changes to healthcare strategic plans to decrease the risk of cybercrime. Include the following aspects in the assignment: Summarize the way cybercriminals can hack hospital systems. Is this an internal or external force? Or both? Why? What could be added to the strategic planning to decrease these risks? Write a one-page paper with your responses.
