Question

Bob is a recent graduate of the Lindner College of Business. He is currently working as an analyst at a consulting firm where, on behalf of a pharmaceutical company, he worked on a telephone survey of veterinarians. At first, none would speak with him. But, having recently graduated from a university known for its science and medical research, Bob changed his pitch to "Hi! I am a recent graduate of the University of Cincinnati, doing research on animal illness. Is the doctor in?" This approach got Bob the responses he needed. Was Bob acting ethically? (If so, why? If not, why not?) Exactly what (if anything) is wrong with Bob's "pitch?" Please advise Bob. Is there a more ethical way of achieving the desired result?
