Destination and Visitor Management
Assessment - Destination Profile
Your task
Individually, you are required to create a ten-minute video recording in which you are to showcase a destination based on the assessment instructions below.
Assessment Description
This individual assessment aims to assess students' ability to discuss and reflect on the main aspects of a destination and visitor management by profiling a destination. In preparing the destination profile, students must demonstrate their analytical skills and ability to critically examine relevant primary and secondary sources of information.
Assessment Instructions
Please take note that the details regarding your destination will be available at the end of week 1 through MyKBS's ‘View the assigned destination' button in the subject's assessments tab. It is important to focus on this assigned destination as you are expected to assume that you work for a DMO responsible for managing hospitality and tourism activity in that particular location. Keep in mind that if you choose to focus on any other destination, your submission will receive a grade of zero.
To complete this task, you are required to conduct a thorough research of the assigned destination and critically examine the following aspects:
The location and region of the chosen destination, its yearly visitor numbers (excluding 2020/21/22 if the data is unavailable due to the COVID-19 pandemic), and visitors' economic contribution to the local community.
Destinations' amalgams (i.e., attractions, amenities, access, and ancillary services), cultural appraisals, and the range and types of extraordinary experiences offered.
Current issues regarding tourism development and visitor management affecting the chosen destination using sustainable destination principles.
DMO's involvement in destination competitiveness, stakeholder networks and collaboration.
In composing the destination profile, you must incorporate theories and concepts related to the destination and visitor management discussed in the topics from weeks 1 to 3.
You must use at least ten (10) sources of information. These may include websites, social media sites, industry reports, census data, journal articles, and newspaper articles. These references should be presented as in-text citations and a reference list at the end of your slides (not included in the word limit). Wikipedia and other ‘popular' sites are not to be used.
