Contemporary Management Studies

• provide management students the opportunity to identify and engage with recent developments in theory and practice within and across the domain of management studies
• analyse current and emerging problems in management practise through a variety of critical academic ‘lenses'
• apply critical perspectives to these ‘sites of application', that is in relation to issues that are of contemporary relevance to managers.

Learning Outcome 1: Critically assess and demonstrate a clear understanding of current debates and issues in managerial practice.
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate and apply a critical understanding of relevant philosophical issues underpinning approaches to management research
Learning Outcome 3: Select and apply relevant research approaches to an identified and specific site of management action
Learning Outcome 4: Explain the way in which a philosophically informed understanding of management issues may make a significant contribution to the achievement of organisational goals.
Learning Outcome 5: Develop independent study and research skills through the detailed study of a current management technique, model or theories
Learning Outcome 6: Critically discuss the effect this current management technique, model or theory might have on managerial practice, using clearly justified argument based on relevant literature
Learning Outcome 7: Identify and justify appropriate research approach for evaluating these implications
Learning Outcome 8: Actively contribute to the debate on the how different approaches to management problems may yield new insights into those problems.
