Part 1
Referring to the reading for this week, please respond to ONE of the prompts below:
Question 1. Solecki et al. consider the following "urban sectors and services": Energy, Water and Wastewater, Transportation, and Public Health. Why do you think they focus on these four? What other sectors and services do you think should be added to this list that need to have climate change plans and coordinate with the other sectors? Why?
Question 2. Identify and explain at least 5 current and future climate change hazards and risks that are shared by all major cities. Why are good, informed urban land use and planning and governance so important to address climate change risks?
Question 3. From p. 205: "As cities grow, both resources and the capacity for continued expansion become limited. These limits occur frequently in a variety of contexts: environmental (e.g. limits on water and energy supply); societal (e.g. constraints imposed by ethnic and racial conflicts); political (e.g. limits of governance); and economic (e.g. limits on opportunity and employment). These limits can develop into crises that must be resolved if the city is to continue to grow. The resolution of these crises often leads to fundamental transformations in the city, which are punctuated by transitions." Identify and describe any transitions or transformations in a city that you are familiar with due to any of the contexts for limits described above? Was the transition or transformation considered successful? [Consider Table 10.1 on page 209 as an example.]
Question 4. Post a link to some media that you read or watched that relates to the readings. Write 1-2 paragraphs describing the what the clip or article is about and how you connect it to what you read.
Question 5. Compose and answer your own prompt that matches the quality of questions and responses required from above. This option is for when you got something out of the reading that you want to write about, but that I did not ask about.
Part 2

Is there a plan update on the horizon? What sectors and services are highlighted in the plan? What are some of the major initiatives? Are there any initiatives that surprise you? In your analysis, is the city's plan an example of weak or strong sustainability? Explain how it is weak or strong/just sustainability with examples.
