Culture and Treatment for Psychological Disorders Presentation

Imagine you have been hired by a local community mental health center as an expert to give a talk to a group of citizens who are from two cultures who tend to be hesitant to seek treatment for psychological/psychiatric issues. Your goal is to present some of the benefits of seeking appropriate assessment and treatment for mental health issues, while emphasizing and respecting the general cultural norms and beliefs of your audience. Choose two cultures where mental health treatment has not been the norm or where it has been hesitantly used. Research the reasons for this as well as the cultural norms, beliefs, and experience that have driven the hesitancy or even refusal to engage in mental health assessment or treatment. Provide information on rates of mental health issues for both populations as well as some typical symptoms that are notable for individuals in each culture. Describe to your audience your understanding of their stance and provide a culturally sensitive and appropriate presentation on the benefits of assessment/treatment and how the field of psychology can incorporate their cultural needs into the assessment/treatment process to better serve them.

This project should be 15+ slides, not including your cover and reference slides. All slides must include citations and properly formatted presenter's notes. Use at least four scholarly references, in addition to the text to respond.

Assignment:  You will begin preparation for next week's assignment. In two pages or less, develop a full sentence outline detailing what the content of each slide will be.

To do this you will need to identify the two cultures you are going to be speaking to. Your outline should include APA formatted citations and be informed with your scholarly source support.

One thing to think about is how you can use the information this week on language/communication and health across cultures to make your overall presentation more effective. You should include a reference page.

It can be understood from the people that a maximum number of people are facing the issue of mental illness but they are unable to share their view and their treatment process due to the facts that this does not belong to their cultural background. You only need to outline it in enough detail so that you can show the reader that the study will convincingly demonstrate what you want to show. This paper is not simply a report of other people’s research. Rather, this is a paper describing a phenomenon you want to examine, describing why this phenomenon is theoretically interesting, and then describing a compelling way your idea can be tested. Your paper must include an accurate and thorough description and application of the research method that you will use. Discuss how you will avoid bias in your research. This paper should be two to three pages. The study design should specify the nature of the sample, the instruments and/or experimental manipulations to be used, and the ways you will operationalize the variables.

This outline should be no more than two pages. No cover page is necessary (but put your name on your work!). You must include citations in the body of the outline and a reference page. Use at least four scholarly references, in addition to the text. Explain the difference between quantitative and qualitative research. Design a compelling and interesting quantitative or qualitative study that might be carried out to test one of the hypotheses you proposed in last week. You do not need to actually conduct the study.
