CASE STUDY -

You have been invited to set up a new program at the local community centre to provide information and education about supports and services in Australia. The group will comprise of mothers from the local area who are wanting to learn about options with primary health and child services.

Many of the mothers are from South-East Asian countries such as Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia, and have recently arrived in Australia.

Other information provided to you is that some of the mothers speak English well, while others only have limited English skills.

You decide as group activity leader to call a meeting for the young mothers to talk about their hopes, ideas and preferences for the activities and for them to have input to ensure that this meet cultural needs and preferences for the overall success of the program.
