Question: One appropriate planned activity that supports the cultural identity of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students. The aim of the experience should be to foster cross-cultural awareness and understanding. Plan for a group of children aged between eight to 12 years.

The activity should demonstrate an understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture and values. It should be age appropriate and reflect an authentic Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander perspective.

A detailed plan must explain why you have chosen the activity, how you will set up the environment, and how you are going to involve and interact with the students during this experience.

The plan should include the following key knowledge areas

Differences between cultural groups

Requirements of anti-discrimination legislation

Benefits of diversity to the school community

Principles and practices of cultural awareness and cross-cultural communication

Local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture

Education policies and initiatives designed to support learning outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people

Information sources for local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people

Range of teaching and learning strategies
