Cultural and Social Understanding Paper

A culturally and socially competent person possesses an awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the interconnectedness of the social and cultural dimensions within and across local, regional, state, national, and global communities. You can identify these characteristics within the characters of the stories we read.

You will assess the impact that social institutions have on individuals and culture -past, present, and future. Think about the stories you have read in the class thus far and the social and cultural impacts on the characters, the plot, and the ending. The world around these stories impact literature and are very telling of the social and cultural influences of the times.

How can we know the social and cultural impacts on the future?

Objectives: Show how historical events and sociological, and historical factors influence literature. Students will be able to explain how cultural, social. and historical factors influence literature.

Task: In a 500-1000 word essay, in MLA format, answer the following question on a separate Word Document.

Using a short story from this week's reading, explain how cultural, social, and/or historical events and sociological trends influenced and are apparent in the story. Please provide three very specific examples from the text to explain your answer. (Examples do not have to reflect each of the three categories. It can reflect a combination of any or all categories).
