For the past 20 years I have built a career as a secretary in a variety of different companies. This summer I moved from Delaware to my hometown are in Pennsylvania. The towns around me are small communities of 2,000 - 6,000 people. When job searching, I typically find a job quickly. However, moving to a rural area has been a challenge for me to find a career I am satisfied with. As I search for jobs, I notice that there are several administrative jobs that require healthcare knowledge. This is a skill I am lacking and the reason I have pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration and Management. As far as motivation for pursuing my degree, I have a family to support and I would also like to be a role model for my daughters.
The first university I attended was Columbia Southern University from 2014 to 2015. GPA was 3.75 and I completed 12 credits. Stopped attending school after having my second child who is now in Kindergarten. Because she is older and I have more support from my husband and older child, I believe that education will not be as difficult for me as it was then.
A mistake I made in the past was choosing a university that was not regionally accredited. After researching for months, I feel confident that earning a degree at CSU Global will give me more career opportunities with the ACBSP accreditation.
Being in a classroom is difficult for me to concentrate. Sometimes it is a distracting person and other times my mind wonders and I would not hear what the teacher said. This is one of the reasons online education works best for me. At my previous university, my first class was Learning Strategies for Success. During this course I discovered I am a visual learner and began researching tips to assimilate into my study routine. The best tactics I use for my learning style is color-coding my notes and creating a detailed calendar with icons. Taking the extra time gives me another chance to review my objectives and categorize them.
CSU Global offers the flexibility that I require to be a successful student. For each course, I estimate four hours per week reading the content online and 5-6 hours doing the related readings, papers, and other assignments. A total of ten hours per course per week with four hours extra for unplanned overtime needed. A small office is where I will complete most homework while my children are at school and husband is at work.
