Assignment - Selection of renewable energy system to minimise grid energy consumption
You have been allocated (See the attached excel file) a house model with following information
- Embodied Energy
- Appliance, and heating and cooling energy consumption in Melbourne climate
- Hourly operational energy consumption (including HVAC and appliance energy consumption) per year in Melbourne Climate
You have to
1) Describe briefly two renewable energy systems.
2) Select appropriate renewable energy system to minimise the operational energy consumption from grid. Consider 40 years as the lifecycle. You have to
- Provide details of the inputs: location, electric load, grid, emissions, renewable energy systems (select capacity and cost according to Australian market), local climate data (Solar, wind etc.) and economics (consider discount rate (4%) and inflation rate 2%). (You can use screenshots from HOMER software).
- Choose the renewable energy system with the lowest Net Present Cost (NPC) and provide details of the output: optimisation results, cost summary, cash flow, compare economics and electrical. (You can use screenshot from HOMER software).
3) Calculate Life Cycle (40 years) Energy Consumption of this house with the selected renewable energy system.
4) Make a table for top 5 combinations of the renewable energy system as identified in the HOMER optimisation results page (including the Grid Only case).
Compare the emissions and NPC of your selected renewable energy system with other combinations of renewable energy systems in this table and the grid only case. How should you select the optimum renewable energy system? Is it for lowest NPC or for lowest emissions? Justify your answer through reviewing and citing at least two relevant journal papers.
Note - You must submit the HOMER file along with your assignment.
