Question

1. Read the scenario and respond to the questions below.

Scenario: Steve, a manager you work with, considers the purpose of his team is to provide him with a service - not the other way around. He sees the focus of his role should be working with senior management and not with day to day team operations. As a result, he is rarely available to the team members.

Steve is lucky in the quality of his team members. This is due to the HR Manager, who used a range of EI principles when selecting employees. Several team members are becoming bored with their work as they are given tasks that are not challenging, and they feel they are not empowered to expand their roles. They discuss this at a team meeting (Steve is absent yet again). The consensus is that there is "nowhere to go" in the job.

One of the team members who is more outgoing than the others decides to contact Steve and discuss this. When they approach Steve, he says that he doesn't have time to discuss things right now as he goes to another meeting.

As a result, several team members begin to look for a new job. At the same time, they take less interest in their work and become apathetic, resulting in a loss in productivity.

a. Critique Steve's management, leadership and emotional intelligence to identify where he is doing poorly. Evaluate the impact this will have on workplace behaviour.

b. Decide three ways the manager could use the strengths of workgroup members express their thoughts and feeling while achieving workplace outcomes. Your response should be approximately 100-150 words.

c. Use your emotional intelligence skills to prepare a statement to Steve, assisting him in understanding the effect his behaviour and emotions have on others in the team. Your response should be approximately
