According to the text, one criticism/limitation of social strain theories is with the Anomie Theory and how it tends to make assumptions about situations of lower-class people. It also makes a generalization about structural frustration causing delinquency that has been criticized. Another criticism lies with the traditional strain theory because it tries to explain delinquency in the lower class but doesn't look beyond that into the other social classes. These theories also tend to discuss male delinquents with little application to female delinquency in any of the social classes. (Thompson, 2021).
