Summative: Introduction
The assessment for this module takes the form of a portfolio of written work (3500 words ± 10%). The portfolio comprises of three pieces of writing, and an Introduction and Conclusion section. Part 1 and 2 should be written in the third person. Part 3 is a reflective account and should be written in the first person.
The assessment for this module is aligned with the module learning outcomes.
The portfolio is designed to support you in deepening your knowledge, understanding of the topics, concepts and theories introduced within this module. The assignment is also designed to allow you to develop your critical thinking, use of evidence and reflective analysis skills which underpin your practice as an AHP or Social Worker.
Summative Assessment Guidance
Suggested structure for your portfolio is as follows:
Word count: 3500 words from first word of the introduction to last word of conclusion including all sub-headings, tables, figures and citations. Reference lists and appendices are not included in the word count. Work should not exceed 10% of the word count. Additional words will not be graded.
Introduction (250 words approx.) Introduce the current context for your portfolio as it relates to Health and Social Care. You should clearly identify for the reader the purpose of your portfolio. Finally, you should provide a brief overview to the structure of your assignment.
Piece 1 (1000 words approx.) LOs 3 and 4
Selecting one identified life span stage (e.g. older adulthood, infancy etc.) critically appraise how strengths and needs of individuals can impact on their human development. In addition, you should relate your discussion to the relevant local, national and global health and social care policies as they support individuals, families and communities to realise their potential.
Piece 2 (1000 words approx.) LOs 5 and 6
In this section write a critical analysis of the community profile undertaken within this module. In the analysis you should consider the history, demographics and characteristics of the specific community. You should determine and critique factors within the community which build resilience and the potential barriers to equality in health and social care. As part of this analysis consider roles of service providers who may work with this specific community and critique their inter-related roles. These might include, for example, voluntary, private and statutory organisations.
Piece 3 (1000 words approx.) LO 1 and 2
In this final section you should write a critically reflective account in which you reflect on your own development and sense of self, including your personal and professional identity. You should also critically reflect and discuss the need for monitoring of own health and wellbeing and outline at least two strategies for building and maintaining resilience.
Conclusion (250 words approx.) In this section you should bring your portfolio to a conclusion. This should relate back to the purpose of your assignment.
