MGM3107 Strategic Management in Tourism and Hospitality - Academies Australasia

Task Requirements

(a) This is an Individual Assessment consisting of a written report and a Video presentation

(b) The report will be based on the organisation chosen in Assessment 1 and a SWOT analysis of that organisation.

(c) The report must show knowledge of relevant theory and must be properly referenced.

(d) Based on the SWOT analysis, students will submit a 2500 to 3000 word report which will include the following:

a. A summary of the information and analysis from Assessment 1

b. Based on the SWOT analysis identify two critical strategic issues relevant to the organisation. Marks are based on the strength of the argument concerning the criticality of the two issues, i.e. why are these issues critical to the organisation?

(e) Students will also be required to submit a Video Presentation (PowerPoint) providing a summary of the report. The PowerPoint must include relevant notes (500 words)

Students should demonstrate the ability to:

1. Critically evaluate theoretical positions, and identify strengths and weaknesses of a given strategy/organisation

2. Make appropriate use of the concepts of strategic management in oral and written forms

3. Clearly demonstrate linkages between factors in the internal/external environment and current business strategies

4. Use the models of strategic analysis to clearly identify the range of internal and external business/management issues facing a current real-time case organisation

5 Communicate complex information clearly and succinctly in oral and written forms

6 Develop a strong, credible argument

7 Demonstrate research skills and use appropriate strategic management literature.
