Process management and memory management are the two integral functions of modern operating systems. Generally, a process can be considered a program that is being executed in a sequential manner in uniprocessor design. Each process needs resources such as memory, CPU burst time, and input/output resources. The traditional system allows serval processes to share the aforementioned resources, nevertheless, one processor is shared among multiple processes. Further, processes get created, may have to be suspended waiting for an event like completing certain input or output operation. Processes terminated when the task it is defined for is completed. In parallel, with process management, memory management is equally important which manages primary memory and moves process back and forth between main memory and secondary memory during execution. In addition, memory management keeps the record of every memory location, regardless of allocated or deallocated to the process. Moreover, it decide how much memory will be allocated to each process. Given the background, provide a detailed report not more than 3,000 words on the following aspects of the process management and memory management.
a) Technically analyze the process management techniques
b) Elaborate the strength and weakness of the different memory management strategies
(Note: at least 3 memory management strategies are expected)
Expectation: The literature is well supported with 4 or more in- text citations and references.
Task: 3
Storage management describes how the data, file system and Input and output devices are handled by operating system. The storage management technologies including virtualization, RAID levels, replication, mirroring, data duplication, data compression of data, and traffic analysis approaches helps us to reduce the amount of expensive storage required as well as staffing expenses. Also, aforementioned techniques also preventing underutilization. Concurrently, data protection and security mechanisms are sequentially required in the operating system to protect one process data from one another activities, and to provide such protection through proper authorization from the operating system. With respect to the above extract, provide a detailed report on the following aspects of the storage management and protection technologies.
c) Elaborate the strengths and weakness of storage management techniques
d) Critically evaluate the protection and security in the operating system perspective
