CE701 Applied sustainable construction technology & Measurement - Kingston University London
Module - Applied sustainable construction technology & Measurement
Learning Outcome 1: Demonstrate a working knowledge of the construction of low and high-rise buildings both commercial and residential
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate the ability to competently specify the building technologies involved in the construction of complex structures.
Learning Outcome 3: Measure structures and work sections of complex buildings and infrastructure works competently.
Learning Outcome 4: Critically evaluate the application of measurement rules of standard industry conventions in quantifying complex construction works.
Assessment task
Part 1
The work in Part 1 is to be measured in accordance with the latest Civil Engineering Standard Method of Measurement (CESMM).
Take off the quantities and prepare descriptions for the piles, pile caps, and bridge abutments in the drawings numbered 5120315-BR-DD-001, 5120315-BR-DD-002,5120315-BR-DD-003, 5120315-BR-DD-004, and 5120315-BR-DD-005.
You are to measure thein-situ concrete, reinforcement and formwork only.
Part 2
The work in Part 2 is to be in accordance with the New Rules of Measurement 2 (NRM2).
Using the information supplied, this includes drawings, finishing schedules and door and window schedules, measure and price the internal finishes for the semi-detached houses using CostX software.
You are to also prepare:
• Items for inclusion in the Preliminaries Bill for the Employers requirements (NRM2 1.1);
• A BQ Provisional item for £7,200 to be spent on fencing; and
• A Dayworks Bill
(You may make an estimate of the cost of the dwelling and assumptions of the trades needed)
Note: Preamble clauses may be written if needed.
Part 3
Using the BIM model of the technical college building provided, measure completely, the following elements:
• Floors
• Roof
• Curtain Wall

Practical Report
The report should be submitted online as a single combined Word or pdf file. The exf files for Part 2 and Part 3 are to be submitted separately as supporting information
Part 1
Your work should be presented as per CESMM4 and industry standard format within the combined Word or pdf report file.
Part 2
Your work should be presented as per NRM2 and industry format within the combined Word or pdf report file. The report must include query sheets and the pdf priced bill generated from your iTWOcostX building file. Theexf file containing all your measurements and costings must also be submitted. Marks will not be awarded for the accuracy of rates used in pricing, rather marks will be awarded for the skilful use iTWOcostX as an integrated measurement and costing software.
Part 3
Your work should be presented as per NRM2 and industry format within the combined Word or pdf report file. This must include query sheets and the pdf priced bill generated from your iTWOcostX building file. Theexf file containing all your measurements must also be submitted.
Word Limit: No set word limit. A limit of three files can be submitted: one report and two exf files.
Research and referencing
You are expected to refer to the indicative bibliography of the module provided in the Module Descriptor and the additional bibliographic sources suggested in the lecture programme and notes. In addition, you must undertake your own appropriate further reading and research in relation to the matters addressed in this coursework brief. Evidence of independent reading and research will be rewarded. A list ofReferences must be presented at the end of the report listing all bibliographic sources cited in the main report.
